Chapter 14
“But you don’t give up on her, right?” A man’s voice could be heard from the phone.
“Of course not, I also know she wouldn’t do that to me. That’s why I call you everyday, Tatsuya.” Another man answered.
“Then, if you need my help you can call me anytime, Kengo.” Tatsuya said.
“Thanks.” Kengo replied shortly.
“Anyway it’s time to go now, Miki will explode outside waiting for me!” Tatsuya said as he laughed.
Kengo also laughed, he also happy that Tatsuya and Miki’s problem is finally solved. But now, the different problem stayed with him anytime.
“Maybe I should visit her this holiday. Yeah, I must.” Kengo thought as he sat on his sofa. “But I just wonder what makes her phone not able to be called.” He thought again as he stared to his own phone. “Anyway it’s been almost half year since I left her…”
“How could I don’t miss her?”
–
“How’s your phone’s condition, Kumi-chan?” Miki asked.
“Not good, you know what, it’s been two months since I gave it to the service center and it hasn’t come back!” Kumiko replied angrily.
“Two months?? That’s too long for that little problem of phone!” Miki protested.
“I know, I also understand. Plus… it’s been almost half year since he left me here, and I haven’t told him about this phone, so automatically it’s been two months since the last time I talked to him. The second and the third months, I was so busy, even though I tried to call him anytime, but I know that he is also busy there…” Kumiko explained.
“Yeah, you’re right. Maybe I can ask Tatsuya to call him and tell him what happen! It’s that alright?” Miki said.
“Thank you so much, Miki-san!!” Kumiko replied, smiling happily.
“Don’t mention it, I won’t stand still if you break up just because of that stupid phone.” Miki said, making both of them laughed.
–
Yeah, that’s the condition now. Broken-stupid-phone, half year in loneliness, and life among the business. They can’t avoid it all, they can’t refuse the fact that they are separated.
But no one is doubting their destinies.
–
It’s the college festival, and everybody is busy with their own class activities, including Kumiko and her friends.
“Kumiko, will you watch the Hanabi Festival tonight??” Her friend, Akiko, asked her while they’re eating takoyaki together in the college park.
“Uhm, I hope I can come, but I guess not.” Kumiko replied.
“Ehh? Doushite?? It’s not that you don’t like fireworks, right??” Akiko asked again.
“No, no, I love fireworks! Just… I don’t have ‘friend’ to watch the Hanabi Festival together…” Kumiko replied, giving an accent to the word ‘friend’.
“Eh? You break up??” Akiko asked.
Kumiko almost choked because of that unexpected question, then she stared at Akiko. “Break up?? What do you mean by break up??” She asked.
“Don’t try to lie to me, I know you have a boyfriend!” Akiko replied.
“Well that’s—“
“We saw both of you walked together, the first day you came to school after the accident.” Suddenly her other friend, Ayumi, said.
“Ayumi-chan..!” Kumiko turned her head to see her friend that comes from her back.
“Sou desune?? You really have a boyfriend!” Akiko said.
“Yeah, what I wanted to say is well-that’s-true! But…” Kumiko replied.
“But?” Both of her friends asked, looking to her deeply with curious eyes.
“Nan da yo?! Don’t look at me like that!” Kumiko protested.
Akiko and Ayumi laughed. “Don’t be so shy, Kumi-chan! You can tell us everything, we’re friends since we’re in high school.” Ayumi said.
Kumiko sighed. “He’s far from me now, and I haven’t talk to him for two months.” She said.
“Two months?? How could—“
“My stupid phone broke, remember??” Kumiko cut Akiko’s line.
“Ah…” Akiko nodded.
“But now my friend’s boyfriend already told him about that annoying broken phone, so I guess… there’s no need to worry or thinking about break up or something.” Kumiko said.
“Yokatta ne, I know you really love that guy..!” Ayumi said, showing her naughty smile.
Kumiko blushed hardly. “Do you even know his name??” She protested.
“Mochiron! His name is surely Ohkuchi Kengo, deshou??” Akiko said surely with laugh.
The three of them laughed, without noticing there’s a pair of ears and eyes that was listening and looking at them. Until Kumiko finally noticed him.
“Jiro-san..!” She called, waving her hand to Jiro.
Jiro didn’t answer, he even walked away, disappearing among the other students.
“What’s with him?? He doesn’t need to ignore you, right??” Ayumi protested.
Kumiko just smiled. “Ii yo.” She said.
“Ii? You’re too kind!” Akiko protested.
“Yeah, she’s not like the heartless Akiko, you know..!” Ayumi said.
They fought a while, just like a normal bestfriend. This is the moment Kumiko loves the most.
–
The Hanabi Festival will start one hour from now, but while her friends are outside with their beloved one, Kumiko stayed in her room, she opened her window and look outside while feeling the breeze of wind, and hoping she can also watch the Hanabi Festival from here.
Tonight’s sky is clear, no clouds, and there are a lot of stars above.
“Kumiko!” A voice called her from under her room.
She looked down and saw Ayumi, Akiko, and their boyfriends are there.
“Aki-chan? Ayumi-chan?? Why—“ She surprised.
“Come on! Let’s go to the Hanabi Festival together!” Akiko shouted.
“But…!” Kumiko refused.
“It’s alright! You still have time to change and wear your Yukata! Come on!” Ayumi said.
Kumiko silent for a while, but then she shouted. “Okay, wait for me!” She said as she closed her window and quickly searched her mom to help her wear the Yukata.
“Hurry up, Okaa-san, I’ll be late!” She said.
“Be patient, dear, I’m trying to tidy it up so it looks neat!” Her mom replied. “Hai! It’s finished! You can go now.” She said.
“Arigatou!” Kumiko said, smiling. Then she grabbed her clutch, wears the Geta and ran out from the house.
“Minna!” She called everyone.
“Ah, Kumiko! Woow, you look so beautiful!” Akiko said.
“Thanks!” Kumiko replied, smiling.
Kumiko actually just wears a simple pink Yukata, with red obi, and has her hair in a bun like she had when playing as Hinamori. “Natsukashii…!” She thought.
They walked together and reached the Hanabi Festival place. The place is filled with other students.
“Hurry up, the fireworks will start soon!” Akiko said as she grabbed Kumiko’s and Ayumi’s hands.
“Chotto, Aki-chan! I can’t walk fast with this geta!” Kumiko protested.
But anyway they got the best place to see the fireworks clearly. A few moments later, some people start to count down.
“Ready, everyone?? Let’s count!! Three! Two! One! Go!”
Then the fireworks show up on the night sky with the other stars.
“Kirei na~!” Ayumi said.
Kumiko stared at the sky, smiling.
“I hope someday we will watch this together.”
Love never fails…
“Kumiko.”
That voice, with my name, the one that I was longing so much… I turned my head and see you there, standing with the smile that I had lost.
“Kengo.”
Why is this tear falling down even when I’m happy?
“Why are you crying?” Kengo asked when suddenly Kumiko is already in his arm.
Kumiko shook her head. “I’m not crying… I… won’t cry anymore…” Kumiko replied.
“Then why are you crying louder right now?” Kengo asked again, laughing a little.
“Urusai!” Kumiko protested while her cry becomes louder.
“We’ll provide trouble here, come on, let’s move.” Kengo decided as he grabbed Kumiko to a more silent place. It’s under a small traditional roof, where they still could see the fireworks clearly.
“Kengo…?” Kumiko called Kengo.
“What is it?” Kengo replied.
“I don’t know what to say… really…” She said.
Kengo smiled and hugged her tightly. “Me too…” He said. Then he let go of his hug and looked deeply into her eyes. “Tadaima.”
Kumiko smiled with happiness tears on her eyes. “Okaeri.”
It is true, no one sees them among the crowds and the sound of the beautiful fireworks. No one can feel their feelings, no one can understand, and no one will be able to wipe it away and replace it from their hearts. These warm embraces, these calming feelings, it will never change. Itsudemo, kawaranai…
–
“Ohayou…” Kumiko heard a voice while her eyes were still half closed. When she opened it, the sunshine got through, and made her smile.
But wait, whose voice was that?
Now her eyes are fully opened and she is fully recovered. And who is it beside her on her own bed?
“Kengo??!” She half screamed.
“Hey, hey, hey! Calm down, girl. What is it??” Kengo surprised.
“What are you doing on my bed??” Kumiko asked while she already sat on her bed.
“You fell asleep and—“
“And you brought me here?? What’s that? How can you got in to my house, how can you went through my parents, how can you—“ Kengo quickly held Kumiko’s hands which is starting to hit him with pillow.
“Listen to me first, okay?” Kengo asked.
“Okay.” She replied.
“You don’t remember that we went to your home together last night, and how your parents asked me to stay here for a couple of day and how they finally decided to threw me into your bedroom while you’re sleeping??” Kengo asked again randomly.
“…”
“Can you repeat? Because I, don’t understand.” Kumiko said.
Kengo groaned and finally both of them decided to let it go away.
“But remember not to get in to a girl’s room before you ask for permission from its owner, okay??”
“Yes, ma’am…”
“By the way…” Kumiko started again.
“Hm?” Kengo replied while still reading some random books from Kumiko’s bookshelves.
“Are you… gonna leave again?” She asked.
That made Kengo stopped his activity and looked at Kumiko. “Oh please don’t use that ‘leave’ word.” He said. But Kumiko just shrugged her shoulder. “But anyway… I guess yeah I’m lea—I mean I…”
Kumiko giggled. “You’re avoiding that word. It’s okay, you know.” She said.
“Well yeah I’m leaving.” Kengo replied, giving an accent to the word ‘leaving’. That made both of them laughed.
“So you are really leaving, aren’t you?” Kumiko asked again, now with a bi t serious face. But actually Kengo saw it like a sad glance.
So he stepped forwards and hugged her tightly. “My heart will never gonna leave you.” He said.
Kumiko felt happy as she heard those words, but still… she feels unease with this condition. A long distance relationship is… fragile…
–
This night, Kengo asked Kumiko to go out together to a calm park.
“You’re leaving tomorrow, hm?” Kumiko said as both of them walked together passing all the flowers.
“Yeah… something like that…” Kengo replied.
Kumiko smiled as she looked up to the stars. “We will… never be separated… right?” She asked.
“Of course.”
“You promise?”
“Yeah.”
“Say it.”
“…”
“What’s wrong?”
“I promise I will always stay by your side and will make you happy.”
Both of them smiled and they’ll always remember the promise under stars.
Queen of My Heart
So here we stand in our secret place
With the sound of the crowds so far away
And you take my hand it feels like home
We both understand, it’s where we belong
So how do I say? Do I say goodbye?
We both have our dreams, we both wanna fly
So let’s take tonight, to carry us through
The lonely times
I’ll always look back as I walk away
This memory will last for eternity
And all of our tears will be lost in the rain
When I’ve found my way back to your arms again
But until that day you know you are
The queen of my heart
So let’s take tonight and never let go
While dancing we’ll kiss like there’s no tomorrow
As the stars sparkle down like a diamond ring
I’ll treasure this moment ‘till we meet again
But no matter how far or where you may be
I’ll just close my eyes, and you’re in my dreams
And there you will be
Until we met
I’ll always look back as I walk away
This memory will last for eternity
And all of our tears will be lost in the rain
When I’ve found my way back to your arms again
But until that day you know you are
The queen of my heart
Oh yeah, you’re the queen of my heart
No matter how many years it takes
I’ll give it all to you
Oh yeah
Oh yes you are
The queen of my heart…

“So, we’re having an ‘airport scene’ again, right?” Kumiko said when they’re at the airport.
Kengo laughed a little. “I guess yeah.” He replied.
They remained silent for a while, until Kumiko looked up to Kengo’s face.
“Kengo-kun… atashi…” she started, while Kengo stayed with his confuse looked. “Atashi… kimi no koto… itsumo suki…” It’s been a long time since she said this to him, so now she blushed hardly.
Kengo grinned and screwed Kumiko’s hair, then he stopped and looked to her eyes, bowing a bit. *Author said : like that Gin and Rukia’s scene in the Dark of the Bleeding Moon.* “Ore mo… Kumiko no koto, itsumademo daisuki!” He said.
Right after those words, an announcement could be heard by all of the people, including both of them. It’s announcing that the plane which Kengo will go with is gonna take off soon.
“Ja, ima wa boku ga ittekimasu yo.” Kengo said, still holding Kumiko’s hands.
Kumiko nodded, as she tried to let go Kengo’s hands, but Kengo just held it tighter.
“Ke-Kengo-kun… you have to go…” Kumiko said, sobbing.
“I don’t want to go to a place where there’s no Kumiko.” Kengo replied.
Kumiko shook her head. “Don’t be selfish!” She scolded him. But she’s still sobbing and still looking down to the floor.
So Kengo lifted her chin and look deeply to her wet eyes. “I won’t leave you anymore.” He said surely.
Kumiko could see Kengo’s will over her. He is serious.
Kengo grabbed Kumiko’s hands and ran together with her to the parking lot where the taxi that they hired is waiting.
“Kengo-kun, nani—“
“We’re going back.” He cut her line.
“Going back?? Where??” Kumiko asked while still running.
“To the place where we belong.” He replied, smiling.
Kumiko didn’t know why, but she felt very happy, very calm, as Kengo is by her side…
She doesn’t need anything but this feeling to be with her forever…
Close to You
Why do birds suddenly appear
Everytime you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you…
Why do stars fall off from the sky
Everytime you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be,
Close to you…
On the day that you were born
The angels got together
They decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair
And put a starlight in your eyes so blue
That is why all the girls in town
Follow you, all around
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you…
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you….
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you….
Close to you….
